Congratulations to all the EPQ students!

Congratulations to all the EPQ students who completed their presentations on Friday!

This year there were a number of historical investigations including;

The causes of Anti-Catholicism in Tudor England
The role of Nationalism in the collapse of the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires
The causes of the relative success and failure of the different Crusades
The relevance of Marxism in the modern world
The extent to which the USA achieved her military objectives in South East Asia during the Cold War
The causes of the failure of the 1984 Miner's Strike

Students have to research their chosen topic, produce a 5000 word mini-dissertation and present their findings to a live audience!

Everyone involved should be proud of their efforts!

Alastair Campbell Visits TBSHS 13/11/12

Another great speaker organised by Mr Etheridge.

Interesting Q&A... One issue that was touched upon: Are politicians today less honourable than their historical predecessors? Or has politics always had a shady side? What do you think?

Year 10 - The Dark Charisma of Hitler (BBC Two)

A very good documentary was shown on BBC Two last night (12/11/12) about "The Dark Charisma of Adolf Hitler". This would make excellent viewing for all GCSE historians studying the Germany module. It will be available on BBC Iplayer for the next 30 days.

There is also an article by Laurence Rees the programme's author on the BBC website. This can be read at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-20237437

GCSE Germany Module Revision Sessions

Battle of Hastings Trip

In October, the department ran a highly successful trip to Hastings for our new Year Seven students! We visited Pevensey Castle and Battle Abbey to help develop an understand of the events of the Norman Conquest which pupils have been studying in lessons.

Thanks must go to Mrs Clark for organising the trip and all the staff who went along and made the visit possible.
